Hey Beautiful Friend!
I don’t know about you but making healthy choices these days can feel like a real chore sometimes. Especially if you’re doing all the “right” things like meal prep, working out and drinking enough water to fill an Olympic size swimming pool and still don’t see the gains or losses you want to see in a time frame that fits YOUR liking.
Before you throw in the towel in frustration (because, yes- emotional eating is a very real thing but that’s a whole ‘notha story for later) and reach for ice cream and French fries, I would like to ask you- what’s your mental motivation for being healthy?
Health is such a complex topic. Literally, there is so much that I can say about it-but for the sake of staying focused on this blog post, I will keep it encouraging and scripture focused on proactive ways we can change our minds. Because honestly, the word of God is the only thing that can really help us to REALLY change our behavior and lives. At the heart level.
I say this from experience.
For years, I struggled with viewing exercise, nutrition, and wellness as benefits for my overall health. Instead, I saw exercise and dieting as tools of gaining acceptance and a “beauty status” from being thin. I know this came from focusing on the things that our weight-obsessed culture tells us too. It didn’t help that the images of beauty around that I constantly took in were very thin White women wearing low rider jeans with their thongs showing and voluptuous video girls with well-endowed booty’s and coke bottle figures in bathing suits (hello 2000s). Somehow, being healthy got lost in translation and came a distant #2 to being seen as beautiful and desired.
Honestly, as I think about it, the mainstream media can’t tell you what healthy is. There are like thousands of diets out there and remember – the game of weight loss is a billion-dollar industry.
What prompted me to even seek out scripture concerning my health was as I grew in relationship with the Lord, I wanted to know what He thought about me and wanted His perspective on how to care for myself. It was here that Romans 12:2 became foundational for my life. “Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” This scriptures reminds me that renewing my mind about health is the real change because of course, the body follows what we think and believe.
The word of God has become the spiritual reinforcement that I’m using to make changes.
These are some of the scriptures that I speak over myself daily. Read them. Think about them. Chew on them and digest them.

If you feel led, please join me in a word of prayer concerning our health and wellness.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for blessing me with the gift of life. I am daily reminded that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and I pray that I am making this dwelling place comfortable for your spirit.
Sometimes I forget that I am in this world and not of this world, and I become distracted with the cares and concerns of this life. I ask for you forgiveness for putting my health and wellness on the back burner.
I hope that you find these scriptures and prayer encouraging on your health journey and are motivated to find even more scriptures that speak to your spirit on God’s healthy desires for our temples.
